HOW DO I FIND OUT IF I AM GETTING A STIMULUS CHECK?

Congress has passed and the President has signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Security Act into law.  The Act provides for a one-time payment to qualified persons.  The maximum payment is $1,200 for single filers and $2,400 for married couples with income less than $75,000 or heads of households with income below $112,500 and $150,000 for married couples filing jointly.  Parents will get an additional $500 for each child under the age of 17.  The payments begin to phase out at those levels at a rate of $5 for each $100 of income.

Who qualifies?  You will get a check if:

  • You have a Social Security number
  • You have filed taxes in 2018 or 2019, or you received Social Security payments (Retirement, Disability or SSI) or Veterans’ benefits
  • You earned less than $99,000 as an individual filer or $136,500 for heads of households or $198,000 for married couples.  This will be based upon your most recent tax filing.
  • You are not claimed as a dependent by another.

If you have a Social Security number but no income, you should contact the IRS because you still may be eligible for benefits.
